LinkedIn AI Trend prediction 2024 Bad news?

AI trend

LinkedIn forecasts artificial intelligence and hybrid working as predominant trends shaping the workforce in 2024, according to data from the professional networking platform.

As AI explodes following ChatGPT’s debut, LinkedIn has seen a 70% rise in AI discussions this year. AI job postings have more than doubled over two years on the site. The frantic pace looks set to persist next year rather than slow.

Employees increasingly acknowledge the necessity of gaining AI abilities to future-proof careers. LinkedIn found AI job ads attract 17% more applicants than non-AI listings. Businesses must consider AI’s role in upcoming positions to retain talent.

“AI will continue accelerating workplace change in 2024 as leaders implement the technology to enhance productivity and remove drudgery,” said Olivier Sabella, LinkedIn’s VP for EMEA and Latin America. “But they must also equip workforces with the skills to capitalize on these advancements.”

Additionally, hybrid working is not fading despite most CEOs anticipating a full office return within three years and pushing back-to-office policies.

In the UK, half of LinkedIn listings now offer hybrid options, rising monthly. Only a third did in August 2022, indicating employee preference for flexibility will drive hybrid work’s dominance through 2024.

“The trend will persist as firms balance staff demands for flexibility with bosses’ desires for office attendance,” Mr Sabella said.

Sustainability hiring will also increase as more “green collar” jobs emerge. Wind turbine technician roles are the fastest growing in America, expected to nearly double over the next decade.

LinkedIn has already witnessed rising demand for green skilled talent in 2023. However, just 12.5% of workers globally possess the environmental science and eco-design capabilities firms seek – and even less women at 10%.
